The individual may have been just released from prison, or the case may be finalized a different way, for example, with the individual having completed any classes or programs on probation as ordered by the court. The case outcome will likely be reflected in public records available for viewing, thus giving rise to a slew of additional or expanded collateral consequences. This is the expungement/expunction/record sealing stage.
